What Shukra (Venus) signifies
Shukra (Venus) is one of the nine grahas of Jyotish. It is a benefic graha whose presiding deity is Lakshmi / Shukra, and it signifies love, beauty and the pleasures of life. In the body it governs reproductive system, kidneys, face, semen.
A graha is not a planet in the astronomical sense. The word means “that which seizes”, and each one is read as a living significator rather than a rock in space. Venus is the karaka of love & marriage, luxury & comfort, art & beauty, which means those matters are judged from its condition anywhere in the chart, quite apart from the houses it happens to rule.
Venus aspects only the 7th house from itself, so its influence is focused rather than wide. Its day is Friday, its direction South-East, its element water, and its metal silver.
