A yoga is a specific combination of grahas, signs or houses that produces a named result. The word means union. Classical texts describe hundreds of them, and they are the mechanism by which a chart’s promise is read: a graha alone says one thing, but two grahas in a defined relationship say something the parts do not.
The important thing to understand before reading any list is that almost every chart contains some yoga. Presence is common; strength is rare. A yoga formed by exalted, unafflicted grahas can define a life. The same yoga formed by debilitated or combust grahas may never register at all. So the useful question is never whether you have a yoga, but how strong it is and when its dasha arrives.

What makes a yoga actually work
Four factors decide how much of a yoga reaches your life. Dignity: an exalted or own-sign graha delivers, a debilitated one struggles, which is set out in exaltation, debilitation and planetary strength. Affliction: malefic drishti from Shani or Rahu weakens it, while a Guru aspect strengthens it. Combustion: a graha too close to Surya cannot give its results, which quietly disables many yogas that look present on paper. And yoga bhanga, the classical cancellation rules, can break one outright.
Yogas and conjunctions
Many yogas are formed when two or more grahas share a sign, which is a conjunction or yuti. Reading the conjunction page alongside the yoga page gives the fuller picture, because a yuti also blends the grahas’ significations and changes the drishti they cast. See drishti and planetary friendships for the mechanics.
