What Mangala (Mars) signifies
Mangala (Mars) is one of the nine grahas of Jyotish. It is a malefic graha whose presiding deity is Kartikeya / Hanuman, and it signifies energy, courage and the drive to act. In the body it governs muscles, blood, marrow, energy.
A graha is not a planet in the astronomical sense. The word means “that which seizes”, and each one is read as a living significator rather than a rock in space. Mars is the karaka of energy & courage, younger siblings, land & property, which means those matters are judged from its condition anywhere in the chart, quite apart from the houses it happens to rule.
