Planet Conjunctions (Yuti)

When two or more planets share a sign

A conjunction (yuti) forms when two or more grahas occupy the same sign of a birth chart. Their significations stop acting separately and start acting as one force. This is one of the few things in Jyotish with a hard yes or no answer: either the grahas share a rashi or they do not.

What the yuti does is a different question, and it has no fixed answer. The same pair is a gift in one bhava and a burden in another. Three things decide it: which grahas meet, whether they are natural friends or enemies, and which house they land in. That is why every combination below is written out house by house rather than given a single verdict.

How to read any conjunction

StepQuestionWhere it is answered
1Which grahas are involved, and what does each signify? The nine grahas
2Are they friends, neutral or enemies?Planetary friendships
3Which sign are they in, so how dignified is each one?Exaltation and strength
4Which house do they share, and what does it govern? The twelve bhavas
5Which houses does the yuti aspect from there?Drishti
6Does it form a named combination?Yogas
7When does it actually deliver?Vimshottari dasha

Two points that trip people up. A conjunction is judged by sign, not by degree: two grahas at 2 and 27 degrees of the same rashi are still conjunct, though a tight orb of a few degrees is read as far more intense. And a yuti never affects only the house it sits in, because every graha throws drishti on the 7th house from itself, with Mangal, Guru and Shani adding special aspects on top.

Two-Planet Conjunctions (36)

Three-Planet Conjunctions (84)

Three grahas in one sign is less common and much louder. The house they occupy is heavily overloaded, and whichever of the three is strongest by dignity tends to speak for the whole group.

Every conjunction, house by house

Each combination above also has a dedicated page for all twelve bhavas, because the house changes the reading more than anything else. The same pair of grahas in the 11th and in the 8th are not the same placement in any meaningful sense.

Conjunctions worth knowing by name

A few yutis are common enough to have their own names and their own reputation. Surya with Budha forms Budhaditya Yoga, one of the most frequent intelligence combinations in Jyotish. Chandra with Guru is the closest form of Gaja Kesari. Guru with Rahu is Guru Chandal, brilliance loosened from ethics. Chandra with Rahu is Grahan Yoga, an eclipse carried in the birth chart. And Mangal with Shani is the classic friction pairing, drive meeting resistance.

If you are starting out, read the nine grahas first, then planets in the houses. A conjunction is simply two of those placements happening in the same box.
