What Ketu signifies
Ketu is one of the nine grahas of Jyotish. It is a malefic graha whose presiding deity is Ganesha / the south lunar node, and it signifies detachment, spirituality and liberation. In the body it governs sudden ailments, immunity, subtle body.
A graha is not a planet in the astronomical sense. The word means “that which seizes”, and each one is read as a living significator rather than a rock in space. Ketu is the karaka of spirituality & moksha, detachment, past-life karma, which means those matters are judged from its condition anywhere in the chart, quite apart from the houses it happens to rule.
Ketu aspects the 7th house from itself, and additionally the 5th and 9th, which is why its reach across a chart is unusually wide. Its day is Tuesday, its direction North-West, its element fire, and its metal mixed.

Ketu is exalted in Scorpio, debilitated in Taurus, and has its moolatrikona in Scorpio. As a chhaya graha (shadow graha) it owns no sign of its own, and takes on the character of its dispositor and any graha it joins. A strong versus a weak Ketu
When Ketu is strong, meaning dignified by sign, well placed by house and free of affliction, it gives spiritual insight, intuition, healing ability and freedom from attachment.
When it is weak, combust, debilitated or heavily afflicted, the same graha gives confusion, sudden losses, feeling lost, and unexplained anxieties.
Strength is measured, not guessed. The classical measures are dignity by sign, placement by house, Shadbala (six-fold strength), freedom from combustion, and the aspects received. A single factor rarely settles it, which is why two charts with Ketu in the same sign can read in opposite directions.
