How the conversion works
Bikram Sambat is a solar calendar: each month begins when the Sun enters a new rashi (sankranti), so month lengths range from 29 to 32 days and are published each year in the official almanac. The converter uses those published lengths, month by month, rather than a fixed offset. The table runs from 1970 to 2100 BS, which is 1913 to 2043 AD; a date outside that span cannot be converted exactly and is reported as out of range.
Bikram Sambat is the official calendar of Nepal and is used across northern India alongside the Gregorian calendar. Birth certificates, school records and citizenship documents in Nepal carry BS dates, which is the usual reason a conversion is needed for a kundali.
