Mangal (Mars), also called Kuja or Angaraka, is the graha of energy, courage, conflict and raw drive. Unlike slow Shani (Saturn) or Guru (Jupiter), Mangal is fast. It spends roughly six weeks in a sign, so its transits work like short bursts of fuel rather than long chapters. Wherever Mangal goes, that part of life speeds up, heats up, and sometimes catches fire.
Because it moves so quickly, a Mangal transit is the most practical of all transits. You can plan around six weeks. You cannot plan around seven and a half years.
The full Mangal transit calendar for 2026
Mangal crosses nine signs in 2026. Two of those crossings matter far more than the rest, because dignity changes what a graha can actually do.
| From | Mangal's rashi | Dignity | What that stretch feels like |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 January | Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Friend's sign | Direct, principled energy, good for travel and teaching |
| 16 January | Makara (Capricorn) | Exalted | The strongest Mangal of the year, disciplined and effective |
| 24 February | Kumbha (Aquarius) | Neutral | Effort spent on groups, systems and unusual projects |
| 3 April | Meena (Pisces) | Friend's sign | Softer drive, energy goes into service and imagination |
| 12 May | Mesha (Aries) | Own sign | Pure initiative, the best window to start something |
| 21 June | Vrishabha (Taurus) | Enemy's sign | Stubborn effort, slow progress, money friction |
| 3 August | Mithuna (Gemini) | Neutral | Scattered energy, sharp words, restless movement |
| 19 September | Karka (Cancer) | Debilitated | The weakest Mangal of the year, frustration over action |
| 13 November | Simha (Leo) | Friend's sign | Confident, proud energy, good for visible leadership |
Two windows are worth marking in a calendar. 16 January to 24 February, when Mangal is exalted in Makara, is the best stretch of 2026 for anything requiring sustained courage: hard training, difficult negotiations, surgery decided in advance, property work, or a career push that needs stamina rather than charm.
19 September to 13 November, when Mangal is debilitated in Karka, is the opposite. Effort produces less, irritation produces more, and the classic symptom is doing a great deal while achieving little. It is a poor window for confrontation and a good one for finishing existing work quietly.
Mangal has special drishti. Every graha aspects the 7th house from itself, but Mangal also aspects the 4th and 8th. Those two are the houses of home, peace of mind, and sudden upheaval, which is exactly why Mangal has its difficult reputation. Its gaze lands on the softest parts of a chart.
What Mangal does in each house from your Chandra rashi
Mangal transits every house in your chart during a two-year cycle, so rather than a rashi table, what you need is the meaning of each position. Count the house from your Chandra (Moon) rashi.
| House from Chandra | Verdict | What Mangal does there |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | Difficult | High drive and a short fuse, accident-prone, physically restless |
| 2nd | Difficult | Sharp speech, family friction, impulsive spending |
| 3rd | Excellent | Courage, initiative, siblings, the classic Mangal victory house |
| 4th | Difficult | Tension at home, conflict with property or vehicles |
| 5th | Mixed | Competitive study, risky speculation, forceful romance |
| 6th | Excellent | Rivals defeated, debts attacked, strong physical energy |
| 7th | Difficult | Arguments with partners, aggressive negotiation |
| 8th | Difficult | Sudden events, surgery, disputes over shared money |
| 9th | Mixed | Restless travel, arguments about belief |
| 10th | Mixed | Career push with visible friction, works if channelled |
| 11th | Excellent | Gains through effort, competitive success, ambitious friends |
| 12th | Difficult | Wasted energy, hidden enemies, disturbed sleep |
The classical rule behind that column is the same one that governs Shani and Rahu: Mangal gives its best results from the 3rd, 6th and 11th houses from Chandra, the Upachaya houses of growing effort. Mangal is a graha of struggle, and struggle pays in the houses that reward it.
Mangal Dosha is not the same as a Mangal transit
This confusion costs people a great deal of unnecessary worry, so it is worth separating clearly.
Mangal Dosha, also called Manglik, is a natal condition: Mangal placed in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house of your birth chart, counted from the lagna. It is permanent, it is relevant to marriage compatibility, and it has many classical cancellations. The Mangal Dosha guide covers it properly.
A Mangal transit through those same houses is temporary. It lasts six weeks and then it is gone. Passing through the 7th house does not make you Manglik, and no transit creates or removes a natal dosha.
What decides how hard a Mangal transit hits
Mangal is exalted in Makara, debilitated in Karka, and owns Mesha and Vrishchika (Scorpio). Beyond the transit itself, three things in your own chart change the outcome:
Your natal Mangal's dignity. A strong natal Mangal handles a difficult transit as pressure. A weak one handles it as accident and argument. The exaltation and strength lesson has the full table.
Which houses Mangal rules for your lagna. For a Karka lagna, Mangal owns the 5th and 10th and is a strong yogakaraka, so its transits genuinely help. For a Mithuna lagna it owns the 6th and 11th and behaves very differently.
What Mangal meets on the way. A transit is not solitary. When Mangal crosses a natal graha, the two combine for those six weeks. Mangal with Shani is friction against resistance, the classic frustration pairing. Mangal with Guru is disciplined courage. Mangal with Rahu is the most impulsive combination in Jyotish and deserves genuine caution.
Using Mangal instead of enduring it
Mangal is the only graha that responds directly to what you do with your body. Its energy arrives whether you use it or not, and unused Mangal turns into irritability, arguments and small injuries.
During a strong Mangal window, train hard, compete, do the physical work that has been waiting, and make the decision you have been circling. During a difficult one, put the same energy into exercise and finishing tasks rather than into people. Tuesday is Mangal's day, and it is a reasonable day to schedule the confrontation you cannot avoid.
The single most useful discipline during any Mangal transit is delay. Mangal's damage almost always comes from speed, not from strength. Waiting one day before sending the message costs nothing and prevents most of what a bad Mangal transit is blamed for.

The calendar above is accurate for everyone. What it cannot tell you is which house each of those nine signs is for your chart, how strong your natal Mangal is, or whether you carry Mangal Dosha.
