Everyone has heard of Sade Sati. Far fewer people know that Shani (Saturn) runs a second, shorter cycle called Dhaiya, and that in any given period it affects two rashis who usually have no idea it applies to them.
Dhaiya, sometimes called the small panoti, runs whenever Shani transits the 4th or the 8th house counted from your Chandra (Moon) rashi. Because Shani stays in a sign for about two and a half years, so does Dhaiya. That is where the name comes from: dhai means two and a half.
Through the whole of 2026, Shani sits in Meena (Pisces). That puts exactly two Chandra rashis in Dhaiya: Dhanu (Sagittarius) and Simha (Leo).
Why only these two rashis
The arithmetic is fixed and easy to check for yourself. Count from your Chandra rashi to Meena. If the count lands on 4 or 8, you are in Dhaiya.

Notice that three rashis are in Sade Sati and two are in Dhaiya. Five of twelve rashis are under a named Shani cycle in 2026, and the other seven are not, whatever the internet tells them.
Dhanu Chandra: Kantaka Shani in the 4th
For Dhanu Chandras, Meena is the 4th house, and Shani there is called Kantaka Shani. Kantaka means thorn.
The 4th house governs home, mother, property, vehicles, education and, above all, sukha, meaning peace of mind. Shani in the 4th does not usually take these away. It makes them heavy. The house becomes a responsibility rather than a comfort.

Simha Chandra: Ashtama Shani in the 8th
For Simha Chandras, Meena is the 8th house, and Shani there is Ashtama Shani, traditionally regarded as the most delicate of all Shani positions.
The 8th house rules sudden change, chronic illness, other people's money, inheritance, insurance, research and everything hidden. Shani is the slowest graha placed in the most unpredictable house, which is an uncomfortable pairing by nature.
What it typically looks like: health matters that need proper attention rather than dismissal, delays and complications around joint finances, loans, taxes or inheritance, and a general sense of being pulled through a change you did not choose. Energy is often lower than usual, and the classical advice to avoid unnecessary risk is sound.
What it offers is depth. The 8th house is also the house of research, healing, occult study and genuine transformation, and Shani gives it staying power. What actually changes the outcome
Two people in the same Dhaiya can have very different years, and the difference sits in the natal chart rather than the transit.
