Guru (Jupiter), also called Brihaspati, is the great benefic of Jyotish. It signifies wisdom, wealth, teachers, children, dharma and plain good fortune. Wherever Guru goes, it expands. That is the whole logic of Guru gochar, and it is why a Guru transit is the one most people want to know about.
2026 is an unusually eventful year for Guru, because it does not sit still. It changes rashi twice, and one of those moves takes it into the sign where it is exalted.

Two details matter more than the dates themselves.
First, Guru begins 2026 retrograde in Mithuna, and stays that way until the first week of April. Retrograde Guru does not stop giving results. It slows them and turns them inward, favouring study, review and reconsidered decisions over fresh expansion.
Second, the entry into Karka on 2 June is the headline of the year. Karka is Guru's sign of exaltation, where it gives its fullest and most generous results. Guru crosses the whole of Karka in about five months, which is fast for Guru, so this is a bright but limited window rather than a year-long blessing.
Guru has the widest reach of any graha. Along with the house it occupies, it aspects the 5th, 7th and 9th houses from itself. Four houses in your chart are touched at once, which is why a well-placed Guru transit lifts several parts of life together.

The classical rule that decides good and bad
The "best stretch" column is not an opinion. Guru gochar has a fixed classical rule: Guru gives auspicious results from the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th houses counted from Chandra, and unhelpful results from the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th.
That last part surprises people. Guru transiting your own Chandra rashi, the 1st house, is not classically auspicious. Neither is the 10th. Guru expands whatever it touches, and expanding the body, the workload or the daily grind is not always a blessing.

There is a second layer the classics add, called Vedha. A benefic result can be blocked when another graha sits in a specific counter-house. This is where generic transit predictions stop being reliable and a real chart reading begins.
What a strong Guru actually looks like
Guru is exalted in Karka, debilitated in Makara (Capricorn), and owns Dhanu and Meena. Between June and November 2026 the transiting Guru is at its strongest, but the transit is only half the picture. Your natal Guru decides how much of that strength reaches you.
A natal Guru that is exalted, in its own sign, or placed in a kendra or trikona takes a good transit and multiplies it. A debilitated or heavily afflicted natal Guru receives the same transit and passes on much less. Two natal combinations are worth checking specifically, because they change how Guru behaves for your whole life:

Making a Guru year count
Guru does not reward passivity. It rewards the things it signifies. In the stretch where Guru is auspicious for your rashi, that is when to commit to the course, take the teaching role, start the family conversation, put money into something that compounds, or repair a relationship with a mentor.
In the stretch where Guru is unhelpful for your rashi, expansion is still available, but it costs more than it returns. Growth taken on credit in those months tends to be given back later. Use them to consolidate.
The most reliable use of a Guru year is the least dramatic one: learn something properly, teach someone else, and be generous when it is inconvenient. Guru is the graha of the teacher, and it gives most to people who behave like one.
