Guru Gochar in Simha Rashi 2026: Dates and Effects

Guru Gochar in Simha Rashi 2026: Dates and Effects

Jupiter crosses from Karka (Cancer) into Simha (Leo) at 12:02 pm IST on Saturday, 31 October 2026. In Nepal that is 12:17 pm. It has been in Karka since 2 June, the sign of its exaltation, so this is the day Guru gives up its best seat.

The minute matters to more than astrologers. At Ramkund in Nashik, the flag of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela goes up at 12:02 pm the same day. Simhastha means Jupiter standing in Simha, and the Kumbh at Nashik and Trimbakeshwar is timed by exactly this transit. Its main bathing days are in August and September 2027, which tells you something most transit summaries leave out: Jupiter's real stay in Simha is in 2027, not in 2026.

Two stays, not one

Jupiter normally spends about a year in a sign. This time the year is broken in two.

After it enters Simha, Jupiter gets only as far as 2°47'. It slows, turns retrograde on 13 December, and drifts back into Karka on 25 January 2027. It turns direct in Karka on 13 April, moves forward again, and re-enters Simha on 26 June 2027. From there it crosses the whole sign and leaves for Kanya (Virgo) on 26 November 2027.

That gives a short first stay of about twelve weeks, five months back in Karka, and then the full transit of five months. It changes how you read events. A job offer, a marriage proposal, an admission letter that arrives between November and January is likely to come back for a second round of talks in the spring, and to settle once Jupiter is in Simha for good after June 2027.

Some western websites give 30 June 2026 as the date Jupiter entered Leo. That is the tropical zodiac, which in 2026 runs about 24° ahead of the sidereal zodiac used in Jyotish. For a Vedic reading the date is 31 October.

What changes when Guru leaves Karka

In Karka Jupiter is exalted, and its protective side is at full strength: family, food, the mother, the home, the feeling of being looked after. Our piece on Jupiter in Cancer 2026 covers that phase.

Simha belongs to the Sun, and the Sun is Jupiter's friend, so Jupiter is comfortable here without being exalted. The tone moves from care to standing. In Simha, Guru deals with authority and recognition, with the father, with government and with the people who lead. Simha is also the fifth sign of the natural zodiac, the sign of children, students, mantra and the merit carried over from past lives, and Jupiter is the natural karaka of children. Under this transit, questions about conceiving a child, a child's schooling, or one's own studies come up again and again. The reference page on Jupiter in Leo gives the natal reading of this placement.

There is a less flattering side. A dignified Jupiter in a royal sign can make people a little grand, and advice given from a height is still advice from a height. Teachers, managers and elders in the family tend to see this in themselves first.

Magha, the nakshatra of the ancestors

The whole of the first stay, and the first two months of the second, fall in Magha, which runs from 0° to 13°20' of Simha. Magha is ruled by Ketu. Its deities are the Pitris, the ancestors, and its symbol is the throne. It is a nakshatra of lineage: the family name, the position a person inherits, and the duties that come with both.

Jupiter enters Magha three weeks after Sarva Pitru Amavasya closes Pitru Paksha. Family property, a parent's business, a role handed down, an old dispute between branches of the family: these are the matters that tend to surface while Guru walks through Magha.

From 31 August 2027 Jupiter moves into Purva Phalguni, ruled by Venus and tied to marriage, rest and pleasure. From 4 November 2027 it is in Uttara Phalguni, ruled by the Sun, the nakshatra of agreements, patronage and the marriage vow itself. The wedding season at the end of 2027 runs with Jupiter in the two Phalgunis, and anyone who times marriages will be watching it.

Three planets together in November

When Jupiter arrives, Ketu is already in Simha, moving backwards through its first two degrees. The two meet exactly at 1°17' Simha in the early hours of 12 November. Mars crosses into Simha that evening. On the morning of 15 November all three stand within half a degree of one another, and Mars reaches exact conjunction with Ketu on 15 November and with Jupiter on 16 November, all in Magha.

Jupiter with Ketu turns wisdom inward. It favours scripture, pilgrimage and quiet, and it can make ordinary ambition feel hollow for a few weeks. Mars adds heat and hurry to both. Quarrels over principle, sudden decisions to walk away, and minor injuries from rushing are the usual complaints of a Mars and Ketu contact, and Jupiter's presence gives them a moral colour: people fight for what they think is right. The cluster holds until 5 December, when Ketu moves into Karka. The dated page on Jupiter and Ketu in Simha reads it house by house, and Mars, Jupiter and Ketu together covers the same three planets in a birth chart.

Where Jupiter's drishti falls

From Simha, Jupiter casts full aspect on the 5th, 7th and 9th signs counted from itself: Dhanu (Sagittarius), Kumbha (Aquarius) and Mesha (Aries). Until 5 December its 7th aspect falls on Rahu in Kumbha, which classically holds Rahu in check. The lesson on drishti and planetary aspects explains how the counting works.

There is one more thing worth checking in your own chart. Saturn is in Meena (Pisces) until 3 June 2027 and casts its 10th aspect on Dhanu. Between 31 October 2026 and 25 January 2027, Dhanu receives the aspect of both Jupiter and Saturn. Astrologers who use the double transit rule, made popular by K. N. Rao for timing events, look for the house that both planets touch at the same time, because that house's matters tend to happen when the dasha also points there. When Jupiter returns to Simha in June 2027, Saturn will be in Mesha, and Jupiter's 9th aspect on Mesha makes Mesha the doubly touched sign until November 2027.

So find Dhanu in your own kundali for the winter of 2026, and Mesha for the second half of 2027. The house number tells you which part of life the two slow planets are working on together.

Jupiter in Simha for each moon sign

Read this from your Chandra Rashi, the sign your Moon occupied at birth, not the sun sign printed in newspaper horoscopes. If you don't know yours, make your free kundali and check.

Classical gochar rules say Jupiter gives good results when it transits the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th or 11th house from the Moon. Each of those houses has a vedha point where another planet can block the benefit: the 12th, 4th, 3rd, 10th and 8th respectively. Saturn in Meena sits on none of those vedha points during this transit, so the five good placements are not obstructed by it.

Moon sign Jupiter transits Classical gochar
Mesha 5th house Favourable
Vrishabha 4th house Unfavourable
Mithuna 3rd house Unfavourable
Karka 2nd house Favourable
Simha 1st house Unfavourable
Kanya 12th house Unfavourable
Tula 11th house Favourable
Vrishchika 10th house Unfavourable
Dhanu 9th house Favourable
Makara 8th house Unfavourable
Kumbha 7th house Favourable
Meena 6th house Unfavourable

"Unfavourable" in a gochar table means Jupiter is not in a helping house from the Moon. It does not mean a bad year. Jupiter's aspects, the birth chart and the dasha often matter more, and each section below says where Jupiter's aspect lands for that sign.

Mesha

Jupiter enters your 5th house, one of its best positions from the Moon. Study, children, creative work and the advice of a teacher are all supported, and couples waiting for a child often see the matter move while Jupiter crosses the 5th, especially when the dasha agrees. From here Jupiter also aspects your 9th, your 11th and your own moon sign. That last aspect becomes important in June 2027, when Saturn moves into Mesha and the heaviest part of your Sade Sati begins: Jupiter's return to Simha a few weeks later puts its aspect directly on Saturn. More on Mesha and Jupiter in the 5th house.

Vrishabha

Jupiter moves through your 4th house of home, mother, land and vehicles. The classical texts count this as unfavourable and speak of unrest at home and friction with relatives. In practice it is often a house move, a renovation, or a parent's health taking up your time. Jupiter's aspect reaches your 8th, 10th and 12th houses, and the aspect on the 10th is useful for work. If you are buying property in this period, read the title documents twice. More on Vrishabha.

Mithuna

Jupiter transits your 3rd house of effort, siblings, short journeys and writing. Texts class it as weak: effort goes out and less comes back than you expect. Its aspects are better than its position, though, falling on your 7th, 9th and 11th houses, so partners, mentors and older friends tend to be helpful even when your own push stalls. A good period to let others open doors. More on Mithuna.

Karka

Since 2 June Jupiter has been sitting on your Moon. Now it moves to your 2nd house of savings, family, speech and food, which the classical rules count as favourable. Money that was going out starts to stay, family matters settle, and people listen when you speak. Two things complicate it. Ketu enters your sign on 5 December and can leave you feeling detached from things you normally care about, and Jupiter itself comes back over your Moon from 25 January to 26 June 2027. Our guide to Rahu in Capricorn 2026 covers the Ketu side. More on Karka.

Simha

Jupiter over your own Moon, called janma Guru, is classed as unfavourable in gochar: restlessness, expenses, a sense of being displaced. It also steadies the mind and brings you respect, and many people take on a larger role in their family or community during it. Its aspects fall on your 5th, 7th and 9th houses, so children, marriage and the father are all in view, and marriage talks are common when Jupiter aspects the 7th from the Moon. The stretch from 12 November to 5 December, with Mars and Ketu on your Moon as well, is the hot part: watch your temper, your blood pressure and decisions made in a hurry. Saturn is also 8th from you in Meena, which is covered in our piece on Shani Dhaiya 2026. More on Simha.

Kanya

Jupiter moves through your 12th house of expense, foreign travel, hospitals and sleep. Classically unfavourable, and spending does rise. The same house is the house of pilgrimage and retreat, and this is a good period for travel abroad or time away that you choose for yourself. Jupiter aspects your 4th, 6th and 8th houses. With Saturn in your 7th house at the same time, a partner or a business associate may ask more of you than usual. More on Kanya.

Tula

This is one of the best placements of the whole transit. Jupiter enters your 11th house of income, gains, friends, older siblings and wishes that come true. It aspects your 3rd, 5th and 7th houses: courage, children and study, and marriage. Keep in mind that the first stay is short. Some gains show in November and December, and the steadier ones arrive between July and November 2027. More on Tula.

Vrishchika

Jupiter transits your 10th house of work and standing. The classical view is unfavourable, speaking of changes in position and trouble with superiors. What people usually get is movement: a transfer, a new role, more responsibility that comes with more strain. Jupiter's aspects on your 2nd, 4th and 6th houses help family finances, the home, and anything competitive, including exams and disputes. More on Vrishchika.

Dhanu

Jupiter is the lord of your moon sign, and it now transits your 9th house of fortune, the father, the guru, long journeys and higher learning. Classically this is one of its best positions. Its 5th aspect falls on your own moon sign, which Saturn also aspects from Meena, so the double transit described above lands directly on you between November and January. Expect those weeks to be full of things that matter personally. Saturn is 4th from you, the Dhaiya period discussed in our Shani Dhaiya 2026 piece, and Jupiter's support makes it lighter. More on Dhanu.

Makara

Jupiter moves through your 8th house, which the texts count as difficult: delays, health complaints, matters that stay hidden, and dealings with in-laws, inheritance and insurance. Research and anything that needs digging goes well. Jupiter's aspects reach your 12th, 2nd and 4th houses. From 5 December Rahu enters your moon sign as well, so this winter asks for care with health and paperwork. The good news is that the first stay is only twelve weeks long. More on Makara.

Kumbha

Jupiter enters your 7th house of marriage, partnership and contracts, a favourable position, and from there it aspects your own moon sign. That aspect is welcome while Saturn runs the last phase of your Sade Sati from Meena, and while Rahu sits on your Moon until 5 December. It is a classic time for marriage talks and for signing agreements with people you already trust. Jupiter also aspects your 11th and 3rd houses. More on Kumbha.

Meena

Jupiter rules your moon sign and now moves into your 6th house of debts, disputes, illness and service. The classical texts count it unfavourable. With Saturn on your own Moon at the peak of Sade Sati, the period tends to bring more work and less credit for it. The 6th is also the house of jobs and competitive exams, and Jupiter's aspects on your 10th, 12th and 2nd houses keep work moving. Think twice before taking on a new loan. More on Meena.

If Jupiter was in Simha when you were born

Jupiter was last in Simha from 15 July 2015 to 12 August 2016. Before that it was there from 31 July 2003 to 28 August 2004, and from 16 August 1991 to 13 September 1992. If you were born inside one of those windows, your natal Jupiter is in Simha and this transit is your Guru return, the point every twelve years when Jupiter comes back to its birth position.

For those born in 2003 and 2004 this lands at 22 and 23, around the end of studies and the first real job. For those born in 1991 and 1992 it comes at 34 and 35, often a step up in responsibility at work or at home. Children born in 2015 and 2016 reach it at 10 and 11.

Everyone else can use the same dates to look back. Whatever the Simha house of your chart brought you in 2015 and 2016 often returns now in a more grown-up form.

Reading it for your own chart

A moon sign table is a first pass. Two people with the same moon sign can have very different years, because the transit sits on top of the birth chart and the running dasha. Look at which house Simha occupies from your lagna as well as from your Moon. Check whether you are in a Jupiter mahadasha or antardasha, or in the period of a planet that Jupiter will pass over or aspect. Look for natal planets in Simha, Dhanu, Kumbha and Mesha, since those are the signs Jupiter occupies or aspects. If you use Ashtakavarga, count Jupiter's own bindus in Simha: four or more usually means the transit gives what it promises, three or fewer means more effort for less return.

To see all of this in one place, create your free kundali, open the Gochar tab, and ask the AI Jyotish what Jupiter in Simha does for your own houses and dasha. For decisions that matter, sit with a qualified astrologer who can read the whole chart.

Common questions

When does Jupiter enter Leo in 2026?

On Saturday, 31 October 2026, at 12:02 pm IST, which is 12:17 pm in Nepal. That is the sidereal date with the Lahiri ayanamsa, the standard used in Vedic astrology.

How long will Jupiter stay in Leo?

In two parts. The first runs from 31 October 2026 to 25 January 2027. After a retrograde loop back into Karka, the second runs from 26 June 2027 to 26 November 2027, when Jupiter moves into Kanya.

Is Jupiter in Leo good or bad?

Jupiter is in the sign of a friend, the Sun, so it keeps its dignity, though it is no longer exalted. By the classical gochar rules it helps moon signs for which Simha is the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th or 11th house: Karka, Mesha, Kumbha, Dhanu and Tula. For the other seven, the result depends more on the birth chart and the running dasha.

Why do some websites say Jupiter entered Leo in June 2026?

They use the tropical zodiac of western astrology, in which Jupiter entered Leo on 30 June 2026. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, about 24° behind the tropical one, so the same crossing happens on 31 October.

What does this transit have to do with the Nashik Kumbh Mela?

The Kumbh at Nashik and Trimbakeshwar is the Simhastha Kumbh, held while Jupiter is in Simha. Its flag hoisting is set for 12:02 pm on 31 October 2026, the minute of the ingress, and its main bathing days fall on 2 August, 31 August and 11 September 2027, during Jupiter's second stay.

Does Jupiter's retrograde cancel the transit?

No, it interrupts it. Jupiter spends five months back in Karka and then returns to Simha. Matters that start during the first stay are usually reviewed during the retrograde and settle after June 2027.

Should I read this from my moon sign or my ascendant?

Classical gochar is read from the Moon, and the table above uses it. Many astrologers also read the transit from the lagna. When both point the same way, the result is stronger.
